Unlike what most people believe, it is not just the directors who play the most important role in making a film. The Assistant Directors play an equally important role for they assist the directors in every step.
The assistant directors are like supporting pillars- they organize, coordinate and arrange different sectors of film making efficiently. From looking after day to day developments they are expected to deal with unexpected situations as well.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assisting everyone associated with the process of making films. He would not just assist the director but also assist the other members of the film like the actor, producer, technician, camera man etc.
- Assisting the director in managing the pre- production work.
- Assisting the director in overseeing the filming and also looking after each and every scene of the film. He can incorporate his own ideas in to the movie and give the director helpful suggestions.
- Assisting the director in overseeing the post production phase of the movie.
- Looking after the timing, sound and structural factors of the film.
- Keeping up the communication level with the members of the movie making team. Along with the director, he too is responsible for maintaining the cohesive feel of the film.
Skills and Specifications
- Responsible individual.
- Ability to supervise a team of technical persons.
- Ability to stay calm and composed.
- Helpful and eye for details.
Education and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in filmmaking from an accredited school of filmmaking.
- At least five years experience in this field is an added advantage.
