Duties and Responsibilities

  • Bank receptionists are like a bridge between the clients and bank personnel
  • They need to perform basic clerical duties, which is a combination of administrative work, and banking tasks
  • They are also involved with customer service and must help customers with any queries
  • The receptionist’s responsibilities also deal with supply management and file maintenance
  • He or she may have to assist clients when accessing their safe deposit boxes
  • If the receptionist knows more than one language, she may need to translate interactions for foreign clients

Skills and Specifications

  • Bank receptionists need to have extremely good communication and interpersonal skills
  • They must be cordial and sympathetic to the customer’s queries and requirements
  • They are the first point of contact between the customer and the bank and thus must present a friendly and helpful picture
  • They must have the basic knowledge of the various services and schemes so that they can direct the customer in the right direction
  • Since it is a stressful job, they must be able to work under pressure
  • They must be energetic and be able to handle criticism in a diplomatic way
  • They should be organised, must be able to multitask and understand the importance of client confidentiality

Education and Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree preferably with a commerce background is required in this field and one may also go for an MBA in finance or sales. A bank receptionist must be computer literate and know the basic financial details.
