A cargo handler, also known as a freight handler is a person who loads, unloads and does the servicing of aircraft between flights. Cargo handlers load passenger supplies and commercial cargo containers onto the planes for transport to their various destinations.

Duties and Responsibilities

A cargo handler job duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Operating machinery such as forklifts and baggage conveyers.
• Driving freight vehicles.
• Lifting heavy objects and luggage.
• Ensuring that all cargo is kept safe until time to load.
• Ensuring that the cargo is moved to where it ought on time.
• Taking care of all luggages that go through the airport.
• Weighing the luggage before they are loaded.
• Preparing shipping orders for the goods.
• Loading and unloading luggage from the aircraft.
• Tagging the luggage for easy identification as to the specific destination of the luggage.
• Driving the luggage to the terminals.

A cargo handler job skills and specifications include some or all of the following:

• Be able to lift heavy objects.
• Be dependable.
• Be able to work under pressure.
• Able to speak, write and read English.
• Able to multitask.

Education and Qualifications

• A cargo handler job education and qualifications include:
• Possession at the very least of a high school certificate or diploma in a related field.
• Possession  of a driving license to drive large trucks
• Must be 20 years and over  of age
