Civil Engineer Manager Job Description and Profile

The job of the Civil Engineer Manager entails planning, directing and evaluating engineering unit such as solid waste, flood control and transportation programs. He supervises and trains members of his units and performs other duties as required.

Duties and Specifications

  • Plans, schedules and supervises work of clerical, paraprofessional and professional personnel responsible for major stages of engineering programs.
  • Directs staff members engaged in design of plans, drawings, specifications as well as estimates for any type of public works contracts or projects.
  • Directs inspection of any construction work that is performed under contracts such as interpretation and application of specifications and plans, testing and use of construction materials and maintenance and upkeep of work-related reports and records.
  • Directs monitoring programs ensuring full compliance with state, local and federal regulations.
  • Prepares and applies section budget with the compilation of needed data and justification for such modifications.
  • Coordinates all activities with various company units as well as federal and state departments.
  • Represents the company at conferences and meetings with other agencies and private organizations.

Skills and Specifications

  • Ability to create clear and concise letters as well as technical reports with the use of correct grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Must analyze existing facts in on which decisions will be based.
  • Can read and interpret studies and reports on technical engineering.
  • Be able to calculus, trigonometry and algebra in solving various existing engineering problems.
  • Must prepare and give impressive presentations before appropriate groups or bodies.
  • Able to establish and maintain harmonious and effective work relations.
  • Must effectively deal with proper representatives of other groups, organizations and the general public.
  • Must know how to access and utilize a variety of computer applications.

Education and Qualifications

  • Must possess a bachelor’s degree in the course of civil engineering.
  • Have at last 4 years of solid experience in civil engineering work.
  • Registered as a professional civil engineer.
