Legal Mediator Job Description and Profile
A Legal Mediator, unlike an attorney, settles some legal disputes but does not represent either of the two parties. Mediators act as non-biased, neutral negotiators for anyone involved in the legal dispute. Using their effectual training in problem-solving, legal mediators help the opposing parties to resolve their dispute mutually without a judge.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Facilitating negotiation and settlement by guiding and encouraging disputing parties
- Working collaboratively with disputing parties and determining creative ways to attain a mutual solution.
- Facilitating discussion and providing guidance in negotiations.
- Preparing court reports, correspondence, social case histories, and other legal documents.
- Implementing court rules and legislative enactments concerning to legal case.
- Keeping abreast of modern rules, trends, and legislation.
- Managing external and internal legal resources where required.
- Advising on minimal liability and legal exposure for the business.
Skills and Specifications
- Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict resolution skills.
- Should possess neutrality, creativity, patience, and honesty.
- Ability to recognize legal dilemma on both disputing sides.
- High-level proficiency in word processing equipment.
- Ability to handle individuals swiftly, decisively and rationally.
Education and Qualifications
- Degrees in conflict management and dispute resolution.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mediation or related field from an accredited university.
