Cruise Staff Job Profile and Description
Cruise staff job positions are usually entry-level social positions for the enthusiastic and extroverted individuals. Ship personnel, as they are at times referred to as, spend plenty of time with cruise passengers. This includes mingling at cocktail parties, playing games, calling bingo numbers, and getting passengers enthusiastic and involved about shipboard activities. On some ships, cruise personnel are expected to dance or sing in shows.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinating and participating in passenger fun activities such as arts and crafts, bingo, masquerade, sport activities and horse racing
- Participating in duties such as directing guests to and from their cabins, answering any questions they may have and providing other directions as required
- Assisting in compulsory life and safety precautions training
- Socializing with passengers to ensure that they have fun-filled cruise experience
- Coordinating the flow of passengers at different events through reception lines
- Introducing staff and any guests to the crew and passengers
- Giving passengers directions on/off the vessel in various ports of call
- Hosting and participating in shipboard entertainment, recreational and social programs that target the guests or passengers
- Coordinating tour departures, tour counts and assisting in the coordination of entertainment equipment for shows and performances
- Organizing, directing and conducting different recreational activities such golf and quizzes to keep the passengers active and entertained
- Cruise staff may serve as master of ceremony to inform, motivate and entertain small and large number of guests and passengers

Education and qualification
- Talent in arts or entertainment
- High school diploma
- Fluent in at least one foreign language
