In addition to performing teaching functions, the Dean of Student Affairs provide administrative function for the university’s student population, supporting both academic and extracurricular activities that include authorizing charters of student bodies, campus clubs and association. They also administer disciplinary measures and other administrative activities after getting successfully admitted to the university,.
Dean of Student Affairs Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare and administer the graduation protocols and ceremonies of students.
- Conduct freshman introduction ceremonies to welcome new students in their respective colleges.
- Supervise a team of student affairs administrative clerks to ensure they perform in accordance with their duties and responsibilities in processing and administering to campus student affairs.
- Liaise with student political and social organizations authorized in the campus to understand student concerns in the academic, sporting and extra-curricular affairs.
- Oversee the processing of student undergoing administrative sanctions from the university’s Disciplinary Board.
- Oversee the administration of scholarships, grants and fellowships sponsored by the university and allied organizations and foundations.
Dean of Student Affairs Skills and Specifications
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and diplomatic skills
- Must have strong academic background a portfolio of published works
- Must have excellent organizational, leadership and managerial skills
Dean of Student Affairs Education and Qualifications
- A master’s degree is basic but a doctoral degree is preferred in certain fields where there is high competition for the position.
- 7-9 years of experience as a professor in the college is an advantage.
