Companies with an extensive loan exposure often employ a dedicated officer to oversee and manage its loans as well as the collateralized assets with the objective of ensuring prompt payment with the least added servicing cost to the company.  For this purpose, the Debt Management Director provides the necessary managerial skills and directs the people in charge of securing debt servicing and protecting its assets to work as a team.

Debt Management Director Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the President & CEO along with the CFO in negotiating for syndicated loans from the lead commercial bank or creditor for the best rates.
  • Work closely with Asset Accounting to ensure that collateralized assets are correctly booked and to produce the right asset and liabilities statement that is correctly balanced for a consolidate report to management
  • Ensure that all corporate debt instruments are properly accounted for using the company’s automated accounting systems with emphasis on its liability accounting aspects.
  • Monitor loan and interest repayments, ensuring that any inflation or currency fluctuations are correctly booked as a loss or gain for the company.
  • Supervise a team of debt managers and officers who are assigned specific debt instruments to manage and control to ensure they perform their task as mandated.
  • Provide management and stakeholders with regular debt situation updates

Debt Management Director Skills and Specifications

  • Must have excellent communication, diplomatic, negotiation and interpersonal skills to deal with creditors and bank executives
  • Must exhibit strong organizational, analytical and problem solving skills with multitasking abilities

Debt Management Director Education and Qualifications

  • A BS degree in accountancy and a CPA is basic
  • A Master’s degree in accountancy is preferred.
  • 5-8 years of experience in managing corporate debts and collateralized assets is an advantage
