A dentist is a medical specialist who diagnoses diseases, injuries and malformations of teeth and suggests appropriate treatment. Dentist provides preventive and restorative cure and presentation with or without using surgical equipments. A dentist can be a self – employed practitioner or can be hired by any dental institution or association.
Duties & Responsibilities
- He must have the knowledge of examining patients, diagnose dental diseases and provide proper cure in terms of medicines and surgical treatments.
- Dentist has to decide the replacement of teeth, cleaning, filling, extracts with use of hand instruments, medications etc.
- A dentist needs to know the treatment plans of patient and should suggest suitable heal according to the condition.
- A dentist must manage maintain the stocks for surgical materials or medicines.
- He must set up a friendly relation with the patients to educate him/ her about the complications of treatment and duration of healing process.
- A dentist has to prepare a dentist case file including medical history and current dental formation.
Skills & Specifications:
- He must be capable of educating patients with general care, presentations and cleanness of teeth at regular time intervals.
- A dentist should have proper knowledge of latest dental treatment techniques.
- He must be able to recruit staff including dental therapist, dental hygienist, dental nurse, dental assistant and a receptionist to complete a dental team.
- A dentist should have the potential to maintain and train the staff, if required for emergency.
- Dentist should have ability to motivate the staff to work tenderly and be friendly with patients and maintain dental treatment standards.
- He should be able to market dental services to promote his dental clinic.
Education and Qualifications:
A dentist should have minimum degree of BDS from a certified dental institute or association along with dentist specialist diplomas. He must have Post Graduation in dental science along with surgical courses. Registration from CDS can help him work as an independent practitioner.
