With the emergence of the internet as an education channel, distance learning has never been easier and more accessible. To this end, colleges and educational centers that provide remote education now employ Distance Learning Coordinators who monitor the progress of distance learners by coordinating daily subject matter programs and courses to ensure they are worked on. They also provide the point of contact to the educational center’s relevant faculty for communicating with participants.
Distance Learning Coordinator Duties and Responsibilities
- Design, develop and deploy educational resources for online access such as conducting courses via video conferencing over the internet, networking, and webcasting.
- Distribute distance learning course offerings and schedules and web sites where they can be accesses.
- Ensure provision of technical or logistical support to distance learning users such remote web-based classrooms, online chat channels for participatory sessions and online exams.
- Communicate to faculty and students any change or updates to distance learning courses and materials.
- Maintain web sites and online databases used for distance learning programs.
- Communicate to distance students by email the course objectives, syllabus outline, online class schedules and period exams.
- Asses the effectiveness of distance learning programs in as input to the design and development of subsequent distance learning programs.
Distance Learning Coordinator Skills and Specifications
- Must have genuine interest in educating young children
- Must have high level of teaching skill and patience
- Must have excellent interpersonal and people management skills
Distance Learning Coordinator Education and Qualification
- A bachelor’s degree or higher education is basic plus passing the state’s certification or accreditation as an educator
- Passing an accreditation for a Specialist Education in any of the six areas of disability, with Early Childhood Education (ECSE) as relevant to this position.
- 2-3 years of experience in a similar management capacity is an advantage.
