The ecotourism job outlook involves being charge of coordinating and guiding responsible traveling to ecologically important sites. Ecotourism operators will inform visitors of the cultural and historical significance of a site and promote ways of enjoying the environment in a responsible manner.
Duties and Responsibilities
The following are the major ecotourism job responsibilities;
- Perform tour guide duties that include greeting, directing, and transporting tourists, answering questions, distributing materials, and providing information on tour schedules and features
- Study the ecological, cultural, and historical significance of a tour area in order to prepare reports, commentaries, and informational and promotional materials
- Applying the principles of environmental responsibility to ecotourism activities and programs
- Instructing and advising tourists on applicable safety regulations and rules of conduct
- Planning tour itineraries
- Implementing emergency evacuation procedures
- Choosing and hiring new tour guides from local communities, especially indigenous peoples
- Supporting local environmental causes or programs by incorporating different activities that benefit the tour area and by donating a proportion of the proceeds of operation

- Ability to put issues into context and assess their relevance
- Possess outdoor skills such as orienteering, navigation, survival and mountaineering
- Knowledgeable in first aid, search and rescue
- Planning and identifying target audiences and goals

- Able to demonstrate leadership
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Micro computer application skills (MS Word, PowerPoint)
Education and Qualifications
Should have at least a diploma or bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject
