Furrier Job Profile and Description
A Furrier is a person who prepares and deals in fur and fur clothing. This job requires immaculate stitching, draping and sketching abilities to cater to the tastes and requirements of clients. The job of a furrier is based out of a designer workshop or a tailoring store and an individual of such profile is usually required to work under the guidance of a designer.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Keeping up to date with the latest designs and fashion trends.
- Designing, sketching and sewing clothing as per the fashion trends and the specifications of the clients.
- Suggesting styles and designs to clients.
- Applying principles of fur garment construction for making garments.
- Developing a pricing structure for the finished garment.
- Coordinating with suppliers for the procurement of raw material for the garment.
- Negotiating prices and signing deals and supply orders.
- Refurbishing and restyling of old garments.
- Following the suggestions, recommendations and directions of head designers and working in coordination with all coworkers.
Skills and Specifications
- Should possess good communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with customers and tailoring their requirements.
- Ability to effectively bargain with suppliers and synchronize efforts with fellow employees.
- Should be creative and possess knowledge of garment construction procedures.
Education and Qualifications
- High school graduate or a GED equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Bachelor’s or an associate’s degree in fashion designing, sewing, merchandising, textile designing or any other related field of study, with about 3 to 4 years experience in furrowing or tailoring.
