A genetic technologist works in a laboratory and performs genetic research or testing. This professional works in pharmaceutical industry. Most of the time genetic technologist reaches for medical universities, legal agencies, agricultural firms and law agencies. The basic function of a genetic technologist is to identify the chromosomal abnormalities based on different samples.
Duties & Responsibilities
- He must know the procedure of processing samples and cell culture.
- Genetic technologists have to do preparation of chromosomal material.
- He requires to store valuable data obtained from laboratory research.
- He has to detect chromosomes and identify abnormalities with the use of fluorescence in suite hybridisation.
- He needs to prepare the slide before conducting any research or test.
- A genetic technologist requires microscope to diagnose related chromosome functions.
- He must decide a suitable technique in molecular genetics techniques.
- A genetic technologist had to process the DNA/ RNA and PCR procedures.
- He has to liaise with concerned lab staff.

Education and Qualifications
Genetic technologist should have bachelors in biology stream along with genetic laboratory courses. He must be M. Sc in genetic science with diploma in forensic lab research or microbiology with minimum experience of two years.
