A Health Service Manager’s job entails providing management services in a health care centre. The main responsibility of a health service manager is to commission and provide health care within the committee through general practitioner, community health services, and hospital management. Health service managers liaise with non-clinical and clinical staff while conceiving the local circumstances and demands of political policy. There is a wide range of managerial positions within the health services, which include clinical management, operational management, information management, facilities management and project management.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Managing the cost, quality and delivery of health care services.
  • Negotiating with non-medical and medical staff internally and people in external organizations like voluntary groups, the private sector or social services.
  • Supervising the management of an organization, service area or service unit daily.
  • Working effectively for ensuring value for money and quality of service to patients.
  • Managing professional, clerical, administrative, and clinical staff.
  • Collecting the information, analyzing and using it to plan and manage systems and projects.
  • Managing the development, appraisal, new recruitment, and selection of staff.
  • Implementing new directives and policies.
  • Generalizing data for monitoring and quality assurance purposes.
  • Managing financial data and other information using computers to analyze and evaluate performance.

Education and Qualification

  • Masters degree in the Health and Medical services related field.
