Manufacturing companies or factories that have target production volumes each day employ Industrial Production Control Managers or Supervisors depending on the extent and complexity of operations. They are tasked with planning, directing and coordinating the various plant activities and managing the resources needed to manufacture products at the right cost and quantity to meet planned production volumes.


Industrial Production Control Manager Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate processing, assembly, packaging and distribution activities to achieve required production levels in the most cost effective manner.
  • Review processing schedules and methods vis-à-vis production orders to make decisions regarding inventory levels, manpower requirements, work procedures, and shifting assignments within budgetary limitations and time constraints.
  • Review operations with technical and engineering staff to resolve production bottlenecks or processing problems.
  • Develop and implement production tracking and control systems,
  • Implement and monitor production standards.
  • Prepare regular production reports.
  • Coordinate and recommend procedures for facility and equipment maintenance or modification, including the replacement of machines.
  • Initiate and coordinate inventory and cost control programs.

  • Must have excellent interpersonal and people management skills for a team of production planning and control specialists/analysts
  • Must have an analytical mind to identify errors and inconsistencies in the manufacturing processes that lead to variances in production volumes

Industrial Production Control Manager Education and Qualifications

  • A 5-year college degree in related engineering course, preferably Industrial or Management Engineering is preferred
  • A master’s degree in Management of Business Administration is an advantage
