A lean manufacturer is someone who has the task of helping in improving the safety, operations costs and product quality of the company he is working for. He is responsible for analyzing the transactional and production processes and he has to identify and address any problems.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lean manufacturers are responsible for being knowledgeable about the lean manufacturing tools and processes.
  • It is his task to educate and train people of the organization on the ways to improve the company’s products, machines and processes.
  • He has to make reports on the training he is conducting and present it to the senior management.
  • He may also have to prepare training manuals.
  • He constantly has to look into the future of the organization and identify and eliminate short and long – term problems that may occur.

Skills and Specifications

  • A person who wants to be successful as a lean manufacturer should have strong skills in training other people.
  • He should be equipped with strong communication skills as well as he has to constantly interact with people he is training.
  • He should be a self – motivated person.
  • He should possess leadership skills and be willing to drive innovation and change.
  • He should have strong computer knowledge, especially in the use of Microsoft Office.
  • Public speaking, interpersonal and written communications skills are also a must in this profession.
  • He should have an eye for detail and be willing to work in a fast–paced environment.
  • He should have an aggressive streak in him.
  • He should have no problems in travelling a lot.
  • He should be willing to work as part of a team.

Education and Qualifications

Persons who want to become a lean manufacturer should have a Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, engineering technology or mechanical engineering.
