Manufacturing Assembler Job Profile and Description

Manufacturing is one of the most important sectors in the industrial world and assemblers have an important role to play in this field. Assemblers work for companies which involve manufacturing, like car plants, electronic goods or consumer durables companies.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manufacturing assemblers read instructions and assemble products or the different parts of products
  • They have to carefully test the partly-assembled parts before performing the final assembling
  • After the completion of the assembling process, assemblers then move the pieces or the products to what is the next phase in the manufacturing process
  • They are expected to keep their work station organised and orderly, and make sure that production parts, tools, test equipment and documentation are properly store and maintained
  • They must follow the targets and deadlines set for assembling, say a particular number of units in a day
  • They need to regularly maintain test documentation and enter reports in the database
  • They have to build and develop test instructions and if necessary revise, review them to increase production
  • They must follow all the safety procedures, environmental guidelines and company rules and regulations while assembling

Skills and Specifications

  • Team work is extremely important in this line of work
  • A manufacturing assembler must be organised, know how to maintain equipment
  • They should have good math and analytical skills
  • They must be healthy and have stamina as some of these jobs require physical labour and a lot of leg work
  • They need to have excellent manual dexterity and should be able to work with small, detailed objects

Education and Qualifications

Manufacturing assemblers usually need to have a high school degree at least. At times for certain jobs, they must have certification or license and are required to pass visual and physical exams depending on the parts they’re manufacturing.
