Night Porter Job Profile and Description
A night porter is generally responsible for the smooth operation and running of the hotel not to mention ensuring utmost security of the hotel and reception area, during the night. This can involve a couple of things based on the size of the hotel. It requires one to be quite enthusiastic and efficient, and possess a great deal of energy
Duties and Responsibilities
Night porter job duties and responsibilities range from;

- Look after the hotel security and guest welfare at night
- Collect a copy of the guest list from the receptionist
- To man the receptionist and be available through out the night duty
- Providing guest services at the reception between the hours of 11pm- 7am
- Clean and restock the shelves and the coffee machines in case they run empty
- Ensure all the areas especially public washrooms are kept clean and tidy through out the shift
- Ensure all deliveries, be it mail, messages or deliveries are made to the guest’s rooms
Skills and Specifications
Night porter job skills and specifications are the following:

- Computer literacy
- Great interpersonal skills
- Good communication skills
- Good negotiating skills as should the clients wish to make purchases in the night, he will have to source it for them or should the hotel stock it, he’ll be required to sell it at a good price
Education and Qualifications
- This position requires one to have a High school diploma with a college course, or any combination of work and school experience that would be equivalent.
