The operations manager is someone who is responsible for running the entire day – to – day operations of a business or an organization. He has to analyze and find out ways in which to increase the efficiency of the company regarding its business operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • The operations manager is responsible for ensuring that the company’s goals and objectives regarding its day – to – day operations are being met.
  • He has to provide a work environment for the staff that is pro-active; and promotes creativity and workplace efficiency.
  • He has to regularly conduct meetings with employees regarding their work requirements.
  • He has to hold meetings with heads of departments regarding its concerns and issues.
  • He has to draw up procedures and rules for employees to follow to make sure that the company’s goals and objectives are being met.
  • He also has to be responsible to ensure that the company’s budget is being used effectively and judiciously.
  • He may also have to act as a spokesperson for the company.
  • He has to involve himself in resolving the issues that employees may be facing.
  • He has to convene meetings with the senior management of the organization.

Skills and Specifications

  • The operations manager should possess strong leadership qualities.
  • He should have very good interpersonal skills and be willing to constantly maintain relationships with a lot of different people.
  • He should have strong oratory skills and be willing to make presentations in front of a large group of people.
  • He should have the self – confidence and drive to oversee the activities of the staff of the entire organization.

Education and Qualifications

Persons who want to be successful in the field of operations management should have a Bachelor’s degree. An MBA in Operations Management is an added advantage.
