The job of an Optician is quite varied for they do not just aid the customers with taking eye measurements but also gets associated with a bunch of other tasks.
Optician Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Taking the details of the required eyeglasses from the client and then designing it in accordance to the desired style.
- Making the eyeglasses as per the specifications which have been made in the prescription of the customer.
- Conducting an eye test and recommending the necessary power for the lenses of the glasses in some cases.
- Assisting the customers in choosing the right frame in accordance to the style and requirement of the customer.
- Measuring the size of the eye, the vertex distance, length of the temple etc of the patient.
- Examining the eyeglasses closely, in order to ensure that the glasses have been made accurately.
- Carrying out alterations of the eye glasses if required.
- Ensuring that the eyeglasses are of perfect fit and that it does not damage the eyes of the customer.
- Fixing, adjusting, and repairing the eyeglasses as per the requirement of the customer.
- Educating the patients on how to take care of the lenses etc.

Optician Job Education and Qualifications
- A medical degree or any kind of formal certificate is not necessary for on- the-job training is enough.
