The private chef is often equated to the personal chef. However, the two are different. Unlike the personal chef who works in the client’s home on a weekly or monthly basis, the private chef cooks for the client everyday of the week. The private chef’s job duties include preparing and cooking meals for the client. The private chef is expected to understand not only the cookbook but also the tastes and preferences of the employer. The private chef has adequate training and is able to prepare a variety of cuisine.
Duties and Responsibilities

- Developing seasonal menus that are fresh
- Working hand in hand with the personal assistant so as to develop and coordinate daily as well as weekly menu
- Prepares all household menu
- Coordinates the preparation and cooking of the food
- Maintaining health and safety standards
- Makes food purchases
- Effectively stores all food
- Works hand in hand with other kitchen staff to ensure that food is served in a timely manner
- Ensure that the kitchen equipment is kept clean at all times
- Planning and coordinating important events such as birthdays, parties and even cocktails
