A sales trainee professional acts closely with customers, attempting to build a long-term relationship with them, thereby also bringing new customers to the company. He acts as an all-round business consultant and helps them to understand how to make their business more successful or choose products which would be more profitable in the long run. A sales trainee usually starts as a sales executive or representative, and sells products and services in a particular geographical area.
Duties and Responsibilities
- A sales trainee needs to make regular phone calls and send emails to customers to maintain the relationship
- He must learn to identify and visit potential customers to bring in new business
- He should promptly but accurately make cost calculations and provide customers with quotations
- He needs to gather market and customer information and based on that provide feedback on future buying trends
- He may need to represent his company at trade fairs and other events
- He must be able to negotiate variations in price, delivery etc with the company’s managers
- He must meet suppliers to check on the status of existing orders
- He must keep records of sales and order information and file the copies to the sales office
