Security Specialist Job Profile and Description

Security Specialist jobs may comprise of a large variety of positions to protect property, people, cash and other valuables. Mobile guards patrol different locations by van or work on armoured ‘cash-in-transit’ vans. Security officers/guards work on individual industrial premises, offices or building sites. Some security officers use closed-circuit television (CCTV) or other surveillance equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct pre-search at facilities, and background-checks of people who are likely to have contact with the client.
  • Give close quarter protection to children of VIPs and to prevent their kidnapping or assassination.
  • Watch for hazards to reduce the risk of accidents.
  • Some officers patrol with dogs.
  • Mobile security officers/guards protect several different properties. Cash-in-transit officers/guards transport money and valuable items from banks to business premises in an armoured van.
  • Armed Security Officers provide close-protection officer to escort VVIPs such as Heads of State, Prime Ministers and members of Senates and Houses of Parliament.
  • Conduct pre-search at facilities, and background-checks of people who are likely to have contact with the client.
  • Armed Security Officers in civvies (Marshals) protect flights on important International Carriers on routes suspected of terrorism.
  • Armed Security Officers provide guard to Embassies, Missions and Consulates in foreign countries.

Skills and Specifications

  • Must be honest and alert.
  • Must have good observational skills and be reliable.  
  • Have a Nose for suspicious characters, movements and dangerous situations.
  • Be trained in small arms precision shooting and in ‘Unarmed Combat’.
  • Should be able to deal with aggressive people when necessary.
  • Job requires common sense and a practical approach.

Education and Qualifications

  • Minimum College under-graduate.
  • Have previous experience in security unit.
  • Preferably, be a former Police/Federal Officer or Marshal of the Peace (Retired).
