Under direction, the job of Solid Waste Program Manager entails planning, directing, evaluating and managing a variety of programs on collection, recycling, and diversion of solid waste. He likewise performs related tasks and duties when required.
Duties and Specifications
- Manages programs on the collection, diversion, and recycling of solid wastes.
- Plans, reviews, assigns and evaluates staff work.
- Interviews staff and recommends those for hire.
- Trains staff members in collection and recycling of solid wastes.
- Prepares and monitors budget of the unit in areas of solid waste diversion and planning programs.
- Develops and reviews performance of staff.
- Authorizes payments for solid waste contracted services.
- Participates in discussion of unresolved contractual matters.
- Directs staff members to collect, divert and recycle solid wastes.
Skills and Specifications
- Able to review and check important information and create sound recommendations.
- Must prepare and make presentations before agencies, groups and other important bodies.
- Must know how to read and interpret regulations, laws, procedures and policies related to programs on solid waste for staff members, officials and general public.
- Be able to negotiate contracts.
- Be able to effectively communicate to discuss with others having various points of views.
- Must know how to facilitate public discussions and meetings.
- Be able to prepare vivid and compact reports, plans, correspondences and letters with the use of correct form of spelling, punctuation and grammar.
- Must be able to firmly create and maintain efficient and harmonious work relations with his co-workers, staff member, public officials, other groups and agencies, and the general public.
Educations and Qualifications
- Possesses a bachelor’s degree in various areas such as hydrology, environmental studies, natural resources management, biological sciences, geology, soil science, urban or regional planning or any other science or environmental field.
- At least three years of solid professional experience in planning and implementation of integrated programs on solid waste diversion and recycling that likewise include supervisory task responsibilities.
