Every state university is headed by a University President who complies with the conventions and standards promulgated by the state’s Board of Regents which mandates the duties and responsibilities of the position.  The position is an academic, operational and administrative position overseeing the various College Deans and operational departments like security, building maintenance, accounting, HR, etc.

State University Head or President Duties and Responsibilities

  • Report directly and periodically to the state’s Board of Regents on the operation and management of the state university.
  • Directs and oversees the various department heads of the university such as the chancellors, college deans, university counsel and security services to ensure they conform with their respective duties and responsibilities
  • Approve the awarding of fellowships, professorial chairs and emeritus or honorary degrees, as well as appointment of college deans and faculty department heads across the campus
  • Approve university expenditures taken from grants, budgetary allocations and endowments for specific purposes
  • Develop, approve and implement fund raising programs and campaigns.
  • Delegate functions authorized by the Board of Regents except as ex-officio member of the Board.

  • Must have superior written and verbal communication skills as well as diplomatic and presentation skills
  • Must have a portfolio of published works in the academe or proven successful participation in government or private endeavors that promote human knowledge.

  • A doctoral degree or a multiple masteral is basic to indicate academic superiority over other professors and deans.
  • 5-8 years of experience as full college dean or as Executive VP of the university.
