A Surgeon’s job entails correcting deformities, repairing injuries, preventing diseases, and improving body functions of patients through performing operations. The main responsibility of surgeon is to provide effective and efficient surgical services to patients. Most surgeons specialize in performing surgery on certain part of the body, such as Neurosurgeon, Plastic surgeon, Orthopedic surgeon, etc. A general surgeon, different from specialized surgeons, performs various types of operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Determining the necessity of surgical operations, estimating risks to patients, and determining the best suitable operating procedure.
- Learning the patient’s medical history regarding certain allergies and anticipating the expected results after the operation.
- Deciding the operating procedure depending on the patient’s physical condition.
- Ensuring appropriate surgical instruments equipped in operation theatre.
- Providing information and risks related with surgery to the patients.
- Managing, planning, and scheduling the surgery after analyzing the patient’s physical condition.
- Preparing the case history of patient after the successful completion of surgery.
- Providing surgery care to patient after the completion of surgery.
- Conducting sufficient planned weekly ward rounds for monitoring care, checking progress, and allowing early discharge of patients under care.
- Issuing a discharge summary to every patient prior to leaving the hospital.
- Maintaining effective relationships with patients without any cultural differences while dealing with patients.
- Discussing patient referrals and procedure outcomes with general practitioners and medical staff.
- Assisting in educating clinical staff and junior medical staff.
- Advising and working collaboratively and constructively with administrative staff and management staff.

Education and Qualifications
- Degree in field of medicine from an accredited institution.
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or biology.
- Related surgical education.
