Transport Technician Job Profile and Description
Transport technicians are professionals who look after the whole process of transporting material and goods and also supervise other junior officials in this work. Transport technicians work at different levels and with work experience they may move up to higher levels. Transport technicians need to plan, implement and allocate human and material resources and ensure safe and timely delivery of materials.
Duties and Responsibilities
- A transport technician needs to ensure all resources before starting on any work order. He has to report any short fall immediately.
- He has to take all precautions to ensure safe and timely delivery especially regarding transport vehicles. He also has to detect and identify any hazards beforehand.
- Check the deliverables against all relevant documents, delivery notes, inventories etc.
- Help or supervise in installing, removing and operating any deliverable at customer’s place. He may also need to give first hand introduction of his deliverables to the users.
- He is also needed to undertake proper housekeeping of warehouses, vehicles and equipments.
Skills and Specifications
- A transport technician needs to be self-motivated, high on taking initiatives and should have leadership skills.
- He should have good technical aptitude and quick learning ability.
- He should be honest, controlled and transparent in his conduct.
- He should be responsible and sincere and should always be ready to extend his help to others.
- Good communication and people skills are must.
- Should have good team spirit, and coordinate efficiently with juniors, seniors and team-mates.
Education and Qualification
A transport technician needs to have a technical/engineering diploma or degree in the field he aspires to work. Precise educational qualification and skill set requirements are governed by the employers need and work-level. For example a junior technician may need a high school diploma plus training in the field whereas a senior one may need degree in technology.
