A travel clerk’s job entails assisting the travel coordinator in the company’s travel needs. This includes the duties of a receptionist which involve a number of tasks, and she/he answers to the travel coordinator. It is a job found mainly in the tourism industry.
Duties and Responsibilities
The duties of a travel clerk are more or less like the description of a receptionist in an organization, and they are as follows:
- Providing travel information and arranging accommodation for tourists
- Verifying arrival and departure times of flights and tracing route maps
- Arranging for baggage handling and other services requested by the guests/tourists
- May contact individuals and groups to inform them of package tours
- Operating the telephone switch board for the tour coordinator
- Opening doors for visitors, and after screening them, directing them to the appropriate office or person
- Staying in contact with the travel agent to source for the best rates and ensuring that no compromised standards of service are provided to the clients
- Arranging for airport pick ups or drop offs
Skills and Qualifications
- Good writing and interpersonal skills
- Good communication and computer skills
- Highly spontaneous and a good time manager
- Ability to operate transmission broadcasting equipment
- Great negotiating skills
Education and Qualifications
- Preferably someone with a high school diploma and experience or job training in the field of tourism
- A university degree is an asset and would be an added advantage
