Duties and Responsibilities

The duties of a travel clerk are more or less like the description of a receptionist in an organization, and they are as follows:

  • Providing travel information and arranging accommodation for tourists
  • Verifying arrival and departure times of flights and tracing route maps
  • Arranging for baggage handling and other services requested by the guests/tourists
  • May contact individuals and groups to inform them of package tours
  • Operating the telephone switch board for the tour coordinator
  • Opening doors for visitors, and after screening them, directing them to the appropriate office or person
  • Staying in contact with the travel agent to source for the best rates and ensuring that no compromised standards of service are provided to the clients
  • Arranging for airport pick ups or drop offs

Skills and Qualifications

    • Good writing and interpersonal skills
    • Good communication and computer skills
    • Highly spontaneous and  a good time manager
    • Ability to operate transmission broadcasting equipment
    • Great negotiating skills

Education and Qualifications

  • Preferably someone with a high school diploma and experience or job training in the field of tourism
  • A university degree is an asset and would be an added advantage
