Users generally work in a supportive role in different types of events but they perform a very crucial task of directing the audience to their designated places check their tickets, help the conduct of smooth events, etc. Candidates can work as ushers on a part time or freelance basis as they are generally assigned work on the designated day on the location of the event. The ushers generally are trained on what are the spots of various activities and how the event should go ahead so that the ushers can helps the spectators enjoy the event peacefully and can look for their desired places easily.
Usher Duties and Responsibilities
- The ushers should be present on the event day before everyone else arrives to check whether all the facilities at the event venue are properly organised and well maintained.
- The usher should be aware of the facilities like seating, washrooms, fire extinguishers, etc. so that they can be easily identified.
- The usher should be the first person to take necessary steps if there is any emergency at the venue like electricity being down or fire being opened at any place at the venue.
- The usher is supposed to work in coordination with other ushers and venue authorities and be responsible for the smooth conduct of the event.
- The usher should be able to work under pressure as events generally witness large scale gatherings of people and crowd which are generally impatient.
Usher Skills and Specifications
- Candidates who want to become ushers should be able to handle huge crowds and the pressure that results with them.
- Candidates who want to apply for the position of an usher should have good judgement skills as they will be frequently involved in dispute resolution and judgement making situations.
- Candidates should be willing to work outdoors often in rough conditions and arrange for things needed for the event.
Usher Education and Qualifications
- There is no mandatory requirement that is imposed by employers to serve as an usher.
- But it is generally preferred to have candidates who have completed their high school or at least their graduation so that they are able to handle crowds well and are able to properly communicate with the event authorities.
