In a large company with a team of engineering and technical staff involved in various aspects of operations, such as construction works, manufacturing or transport concerns, the head of engineering is typically a Vice President depending on the size and reach of the company’s business. The VP of Engineering provides the executive leadership for a team of engineers at various levels to ensure they work with the purposive synergy required in attaining the business objectives.
VP- Engineering Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct regular staff meetings with the various engineering teams from design, technical sales and aftersales support, project management and production to ensure that any problems are immediately addressed.
- Implement approved corporate policies and ensure managers and staff perform their duties and responsibilities.
- Harness HR resources in hiring and firing engineering managers and staff.
- Plan and develop the department’s operating and capital budgets and manage expenses to conform with budget
- Implement and required compliance with best of breed engineering practices and methods as approved.
VP- Engineering Skills and Specifications
- Must have excellent grasp of local and federal laws and regulations governing its engineering governance in public projects.
- Must have excellent organizational, supervisory and leaderships skills.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills as well as interpersonal skills
VP- Engineering Education and Qualifications
- A master’s degree in the relevant engineering field is basic
- A multiple master’s degree or a doctorate is an advantage.
- At least 10-15 years of experience in the management of engineering services is an advantage
