Information Security Analyst Job Profile and Description
The information security analyst is responsible for information security policy development and maintenance. He is also responsible for design of security policy education, training, and awareness activities. He should also monitor compliance with university IT security policy and applicable law, and coordinating investigation and report of security incidents. Working with the Information Technology Services Systems Support team, the incumbent will monitor, assess, and fine-application vulnerability assessment scans and risk assessment reviews is also part of his job.
Information Security Analyst Duties and Responsibilities
Monitor and advise on information security related issues related to the systems and workflow at the UIS to ensure the internal security controls for the campus are appropriate and operating as intended.
Coordinate response to information security incidents.
Develop and publish information security policies, procedures, standards and guidelines based on knowledge of best practices and compliance requirements.
Collaborate with IT management, the legal department, safety and security, and law enforcement agencies to manage security vulnerabilities
Create, manage and maintain user security awareness.
Conduct security research in keeping abreast of latest security issues.
Prepare ITS documentation, including department policies and procedures, web content and ITS alerts.
Actively participate in higher education security community such as Edupause, REN-ISAC, Unisog etc.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Information Security Analyst Skills and Specifications
Should have strong aptitude in the areas of Information Technology/Information Systems
Should have Information Security concepts.
Should be familiar with network operations.
Should be able to identify and measure risk.
Should have strong communication skills both verbal and written.
Background experience in a related field preferred.
Certified performance technologist or Certified Ethical hacking certificates are given preference.
Information Security Analyst Education and Qualification
Should have a bachelor’s degree in the field of Computer Science, Management Information Systems or a related field.
An advanced degree is desirable. 5+ years of progressive experience in computing and information security, including experience with internet technology and security issues.
Experience in higher education is preferred. Experience should include security policy development. Security education, network penetration testing, application vulnerability assessment, risk analysis and compliance testing.
