Therapists are required in many areas of medical and hotel field to assist and treat patients of all disabilities and ages in hospitals, orthopedic treatment centers and rehabilitation clinic settings. Typically, physical and occupational therapists provide a wide variety of medical services to assist individuals with injuries or those physically affected by disease to improve or recover.

Duties and Responsibilities

The diverse job duties of a therapist are often physically demanding, therefore a therapist must be in good physical condition. These job duties include:

  • Planning, organizing and conducting therapy programs in hospitals, institutions or community
  • Planning programs involving therapist activities such as manual crafts and arts
  • Practicing in prevocational, vocational, functional, and homemaking skills and daily living activities
  • Participating in educational, sensor motor, recreational and social programs designed to help handicapped persons or patients regain or develop mental or physical
  • Consulting with other members of the rehabilitation team to select program activities that are consistent with the capabilities and needs of individuals
  • Coordinating therapeutic activities
  • Selecting constructive activities matched to individual’s intelligence level, physical capacity and interest to advance the individual’s maximum independence, assist in restoration of functions and help in adjustment to disability.
  • Teaching individuals about techniques and skills necessary for survival and evaluating individual’s progress
  • Designing and constructing special equipments for individuals and suggesting adaptation requirements of the individual’s work and living environment.
  • Requisitioning supplies and equipments
  • Laying out materials for patient or client use and cleaning and repairing tools at end of therapy sessions

Education and Qualifications
