A truck driver either works for a company or under independent contracts who transports different types of merchandise from one place to another in a truck, van or any vehicle capable of carrying large loads. He may have to transport supplies, hazardous chemicals, manufacturing equipment and also finished goods such as electronics, food and automobiles. They play an important role in every industry as like hospitals, retail stores, warehouses and other businesses.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • The primary responsibility of a truck driver is to haul cargo from one point to another so that they can be distributed, bought or sold
  • They also need to inspect trucks for safety and follow the safety instructions, especially when carrying hazardous materials or chemicals
  • He is also responsible for the condition of his vehicle and look for any malfunctioning part
  • He must inspect the cargo to check whether it has been loaded correctly
  • He must also review all the necessary shipping documents
  • Some truck drivers get an extra driver who works under him and drives in shifts to take off the pressure from one driver

Qualifications are not that necessary in this field. Even a high school graduate may become a truck driver. But he must have all the required documents and license to be able to drive a truck for commercial purposes.
